In 1987 Manhattan, Patrick Bateman is the picture of success, an affluent investment banker with charm, style, and a flawless social image. But beneath his polished exterior lurks a violent and unraveling psyche. Bateman dines at elite restaurants, obsesses over designer suits and business cards, and masks his disdain for the shallow elite he surrounds himself with, including his fiancée, Evelyn. Triggered by envy and rejection, especially over colleague Paul Allen's social clout, Bateman's dark urges explode into brutal violence.

He murders Allen and assumes his identity, all while deflecting suspicions from a private investigator. As Bateman descends deeper into sadism, his crimes grow more grotesque and unhinged, prostitutes, models, and strangers fall victim to his frenzy. Despite a desperate confession to his lawyer, Bateman is met with disbelief and mistaken identities, casting doubt on the reality of his murders. Trapped in a world where no one truly sees him, Bateman spirals into existential despair.
