Vampire Dormitory

Teenage orphan Mito Yamamoto has spent her childhood living with relatives who saw her as a burden after her parents died in a fire. Eventually cast out, she must survive alone. Homeless, Mito secretly sleeps in the ramen shop where she works as a waitress until her boss discovers and fires her. To avoid harassment, she adopts a male persona, dressing as a boy while seeking work.

One afternoon, she stumbles into La Fraise, a café staffed by waiters, and shatters a vase. While tending her bleeding finger, waiter Ruka Saotome, unaware she is female, licks the wound clean but recoils at its bitter taste. Believing she has nowhere to turn, Mito contemplates suicide by jumping from a bridge. As she slips into the water, Ruka rescues her and reveals himself as a vampire. He bites her neck and explains that unloved blood tastes bitter.

Craving acceptance, Mito agrees to become Ruka’s thrall. She moves into Hijirigaoka Boys’ Academy dormitory under her male guise and joins Ruka and his colleagues at La Fraise, seeking the belonging she’s always lacked.
