In a world ravaged by blind, sound-sensitive alien creatures with impenetrable armour, silence is survival. The Abbott family—Lee, Evelyn, their deaf daughter Regan, and sons Marcus and Beau—live in isolated silence on a forest farm in upstate New York, communicating through sign language and walking barefoot on sand paths. Tragedy strikes when young Beau is killed by a creature after activating a noisy toy. A year later, Evelyn is pregnant, and tension within the family simmers. When Evelyn goes into labour, she inadvertently triggers a creature by stepping on a nail. Using clever distractions and signal flares, Lee and Marcus help her deliver the baby safely. Meanwhile, Regan and Marcus discover the alien's weakness; Regan’s cochlear implant emits a frequency that disorients them. As the family reunites, Lee sacrifices himself to save his children. Regan amplifies the implant's frequency, exposing a creature's vulnerable flesh, allowing Evelyn to shoot it. With a newfound weapon against the monsters, the Abbotts prepare to fight back as more creatures approach, determined to protect each other and survive in a world where sound is death.
